Wordpress.com

I acquired a wp.com blog, to use as a test because so many people are posting about problems with same on wp.org/support. It’s a “disabled” version of a real wp blog – no theme or plugin functionality, but as opposed to some of the posts on .org/support lately, I haven’t had any trouble at all with it functionality-wise. Works just fine….

However. The real bottom line is a fairly scary thing: anything you post is totally public. If you post on one of the linked-from-dashboard blogs, or any other wp.com blog, ANYONE IN THE WORLD can read what you post AND they will be able to follow you “home”!

Anonymous has no meaning at wp.com. Sorry, but that’s a very very scary situation. I’d be willing to bet that I won’t use it much longer – because I don’t want stalkers following me home….

A couple of other fairly pissy comments about the situation at wordpress.com: it all seems to depend on who you are, whether you get to “fancy up” your theme, functionality etc. If you look at any of the “regular” (as in “nonentity”) blogs, you see that it’s all very bare-bones.

Then if you look at blogs such as Robet Scoble’s and Lorelle Van Fossen’s, you see that wow! they have a lot of fun stuff that the “nonentities” obviously don’t have access to.

And, there seems to be some sort of manipulation as to what are considered the top blogs, etc. Whether this is simply “growing pains”, I don’t know….
