A conclusion is the place where you get tired of thinking. (Arthur Bloch)

The "Bushism" Of The Day

Listen, Al Gore is a very tough opponent. He is the incumbent. He represents the incumbency. And a challenger is somebody who generally comes from the pack and wins, if you're going to win. And that's where I'm coming from.

*sigh* Database problems - AGAIN!

So tomorrow I’ve got to do some more tweaking etc. I really HATE this program…. MS should be strung up by the gehetties….

For the last week, one of my “shared space” servers

has been UNREASONABLY slow. On that server I have 8 sites plus a bunch of parked domains (4 sites are my own, 4 are sites I run for other entities). I have had trouble loading any of the sites; accessing email from them; accessing them by ftp; accessing the cpanels for them; getting dumped in mid-load with “cannot find server” errors, on and on and on.

Emailed Sharon today to enquire as to the source of the problem. She simply moved all the sites to a new shared space; new DNS etc. All done, no more problems! I LOVE MY HOST!

Looking for one? Try Ace Of Space. Tell Sharon Vkaryl/Vicki sent you….

Update:

I’ve actually got all of the balls back in the air! Amazing, considering what a klutz I am….

Everything’s done. I’m working on the “underwear” redesign of the PPL site (that is, the php, html, and css which make the site run - boy is it A MESS!) - this is courtesy of someone who considered herself a “web designer” because she had DW4 *sigh*. It’s a mishmash nightmare of nested tables, font tags inline, external css that goes on forever without accomplishing anything necessary, poorly named files and graphics, no organization as to folders etc. on the server itself…. goes on and on and on…. and this person is supposedly making a living at this? I feel very sorry for her clients…. and yes, I’ve looked at her “portfolio”….

Unfortunately, I don’t see the organization’s founder letting me change the fuschia, pink and purple for something less obtrusive. *sigh* Guess that falls into the “can’t have everything” category.

The state of juggling:

the balls are starting to drop. *sigh* I’ve got edits to do for OHS docs. I’ve got a new theme child page and associated tweaks sitewide to do for PPL National. I’ve got a tileset tale to write for CTP. And I lost six hours yesterday to helping install a new ceiling fan in the bedroom (why, you ask, did it take so long? because the instructions were virtually unusable - a SERIOUS problem considering that the fan is a fairly expensive Hunter.)

‘nother “little” problem ~

I have lots of pages to validate. LOTS of pages. I haven’t been doing it as I’ve gone along because so much of what I’ve been doing is WordPress - and I don’t care that most of the themes and their authors claim they’re “valid whatever” - they don’t by goddess validate. So I’ve been just getting things where they belong, but now of course I have to go back and do it “right”. In many ways, it’s easier when it’s all online instead of trying to validate stuff that’s on my local server, but it’s still a mess. And it will BE a mess until I get back. The only thing I CAN say is that all of it displays properly in FF, IE, and Opera. Which is a step in the right direction anyway!

The other problem I’ve been having is that the ‘net as a whole has seemed “cloggy”. I don’t know whether this is due to the weather (unlikely except if the problem is local to me) or to tax season and everyone’s trying to do taxes, submit them, etc. online (possible). Things have been abominably slow though when trying to upload or download - dial up is bad enough of course, but it’s been like back in the 9600 baud days here lately….
